Wedding Entertainment for all Seasons

Wedding Entertainment for all Seasons

Entertainment is a vital aspect of any wedding to set the tone and create the right atmosphere.  There is a huge array of options available but it’s good to tailor it to the season, to make the most of balmy summer evenings or star-lit winter skies, and to give your guests a memorable and enjoyable event to talk about for months to come.  The entertainment agency Alive Network  has written a guest blog post with some added suggestions from us to help give your day that desired impact…

Spring and Summer Wedding Entertainment

Summer weddings are an ideal opportunity to include glorious British traditions and celebrations that make the most of our long hazy days.  For an outdoors drinks reception, enjoy traditional entertainment such as a string quartet, guitar duo or singer and pianist, providing gentle background music that doesn’t drown conversation.

A quartet doesn’t have to play classical music, most groups can play an array of styles from jazz to pop and film tunes.  Cranberry Blue works with an amazing group who play on traditional instruments for the reception and then they surprise the guests later in the evening – either in between courses or before the first dance, by playing on electrical instruments and putting on a highly entertaining show.

For a more contemporary feel, consider a saxophone quartet or a soul singer to give a chic and laid back vibe, or include some fun entertainment such as Caricaturists or a silhouette cutter.

Come the evening, you can throw open the doors of your venue and invite guests to wander between indoor energy and outdoor relaxation. Your friends and family can enjoy the familiar tunes and high energy of a band, the sultry moves of a salsa band or the classic delights of a full swing band inside your venue. Outside, they can cool down with a specially created cocktail from a master mixologist, and be amazed by slight of hand tricks of a roving magician.

Alternatively you could stage your very own summer wedding festival, just for your guests, and bring a Glastonbury or Bestival feel to your special day.  Festivals aren’t just about the music, it’s the whole experience of unusual performances and street entertainers, from stilt walkers and living statues to comedy jugglers and impressive fire and glow performers, ideal as daytime slowly fades into night.

Autumn/Winter Wedding Ideas

At this time of year it’s best to celebrate what’s best about the British winter, such as bright frosty mornings and cosy fire-lit evenings, and that celebration includes your entertainment choices too. Greet your guests with wintry contact jugglers while sophisticated carol singers serenade your guests.

What can work really well is to have unexpected elements of entertainment throughout the day and with the trend for anything 1920s and Art Deco, singers and dancers from this era are sure to be well received.

Alternatively you may wish to incorporate an element of a specific culture into the day, recently at Cranberry Blue we had a troupe of Mauritian dancers entertain the guests before the evening dancing started, but you could have Brazilian carnival dancers or cabaret dancers instead.

Your outside space can still come alive on a winter’s night with fairy lights, an abundance of candles, mulled wine and bags of freshly roasted chestnuts from a traditional brazier to munch.  As the evening draws in, create excitement with your own 007-themed casino and extend your guest list with a Daniel Craig or Sean Connery lookalike.

For your send off at the end of the night, provide guests with sparklers and get them to line the way to your wedding car…
