Style File – Veils & Headpieces for 2013

Looking ahead to next year, a lot of our brides are starting to think about their wedding dress and it’s important to consider your look as a whole.  We’re therefore focusing on new trends for veils and headpieces as there are some really exciting new styles coming through.  Having trawled through the catwalk images from the latest bridal fashion weeks and also looking at the designers who showcased at the recent trade exhibition ‘The White Gallery‘, we’ve highlighted five key styles:

1.  The Mantilla

This is a circular and plain shaped veil which can literally be placed onto the head; they often have edging details of lace or ribbon.  They can be of varying lengths, Maggie Sottero and Pronovias showed long versions, whereas if you’re looking for something slightly less dramatic then you can wear one that is waist length.

2.  The Florals

This look continues to be important and can be bold as Oscar de la Renta’s design or you could opt for something more delicate and whimsical.  They are usually worn at the front of the head as show here, but you can tip them back slightly if that suits you better.

3.  The High Veil

The veil is pinned at the crown of your head and adds considerable height and certainly makes a statement.  For an added detail you could wear a floral or sparkly headpiece.

4.  The Dramatic Headpiece

The catwalks were awash with striking and fun headpieces, from Ian Stuart’s mini top hat to the Vivien Sherriff feather creation worn by Johanna Heir’s models.

5. The Blusher

Making a re-emergence is the trend of having your face covered by a delicate veil, and was shown by designers Oscar de la Renta’s, Carolina Herrera and Marchesa to name a few.  Lace edging, sparkle and floral applique details make this style look modern and fresh.

Enjoy! x
