Borgo Egnazia

Beautiful sunshine, a stunning backdrop…you may or may not be aware that in addition to planning weddings and events in the UK, Cranberry Blue also plans weddings abroad.  Organising a wedding is a huge amount of work full stop, but planning one abroad is even more challenging, which is why hiring a Wedding Planner with insider knowledge and experience is vital to make the process enjoyable and the day a success.  Italy is a focus for us next year and in the last month we have travelled there twice, once with a client whose wedding is taking place at Villa Sparina just outside Genoa next June, and following that with a group of fellow wedding planners from the UKAWP.

The latter visit was essentially a research trip to visit an area of Italy that none of us was familiar with – Puglia in Southern Italy.  The area itself is quite baron and certainly not as picturesque as somewhere like Tuscany, but we were surprised to find some hidden gems within the region that would make fantastic and unexpected wedding venues.

There were six Wedding Planners within the group and we know each other pretty well (and believe it or not are friends despite being competition), I had envisaged a busy few days but with interludes of the odd relaxing glass of wine, use of the hotel spa perhaps but how wrong I was!  We were greeted at the airport by the fabulous Bertrando who looked after us for the whole trip (and told us all off for talking too much on more than one occasion), and it soon became clear just how intense the itinerary was going to be.  In the two full days we had working; we saw 8 venues and met with at least 11 different suppliers, with barely a moment to spare!

Joking aside, it was a fantastic trip and we certainly discovered some superb venues to add to our ever-growing database for future clients.  The one that I would like to share with you all today however was incredible and a source of real inspiration due to its stylish and modern design.  Borgo Egnazia is castle-like and built in the style of a traditional village (borgo) so it gives the impression it was once an ancient building transformed into a luxury hotel.   It has a championship golf course, two beach clubs an amazing spa and several pools, not mention a very chic bar and fantastic restaurant.

In terms of accommodation you can either stay in the main hotel or opt for one of the luxurious but comfortable rooms within the village, or one of the villas, which all share a similar style.

The style of the hotel is what I loved most – I would call it ‘polished and sophisticated rustic’.  The design runs throughout the whole hotel and the details are just gorgeous…quirky bell jars, empty wine bottle chandeliers, knots of rope all make this venue unique.

There are various options for event space to hire and the hotel can accommodate small and intimate weddings to large and lavish by taking exclusive use.  It’s worth mentioning that a certain Justin Timberlake had his wedding at Borgo Egnazia which re-enforces the luxurious nature of the hotel.

I would like to say a huge thank-you to Marcella who is the Events Specialist at the hotel, her team and Bertrando (Business Development Consultant in Italy), for looking after us so well – it was a superb trip and we’re now itching to plan a wedding here for the right client.
